The Griffins played one for the ages on Friday night as they took on the #5 team in the state in the form of the Jr. Bills fron SLUH. The Griffins fought off an onsides kick to start the game and stuffed the Bills for a three and out. They then took the next possession and drove 80 yards in seven minutes to take a lead they would never lose. Up 14-7 with 1:32 left in the first half, the Griffins drove 5 yards to take a 21-7 lead with :18 left in the half. As SLUH simply tried to run out the clock, Stephan Simmons broke free and scrambled 65 yards to score as time expired in the half and a stunned crowd saw the Griffs hard earned scores negated in a heartbeat. The second half would see the Jr. Bills try to pound the ball at the Griffins. They fed the ball to Simmons as quarterback Paul Chaney, couldn't answer the second half bell. Simmons was up to the task, rallying the Bills to tie the score at 21 late in the third quarter. The teams traded possessions, with the Griffins moving deep into SLUH territory for the second time on the night, yet scoring no points. As the clock became a factor, the Griffs took the ball with 4:30 left in the game and drove 65 yards to score the go ahead TD. The drive took only 1:30 seconds however, and the Bills had time and the timeouts necessary to tie the score. The Griffin defense held fast, setting up a 4th and 12 at the Vianney 48 with just over a minute remaining. Chris Desamero would be the hero as he intercepted the Bills 4th down effort and sealed the MCC Crown for the Griffins.
