Congratulations to Coach Scott Brown and the Vianney baseball team, which captured its second straight MCC title over the weekend. Our Griffins baseball team wrapped up sole possession of the Metro Catholic Conference title on Saturday by defeating Chaminade 10-0.
With the win the Griffins finished the conference schedule with a 7-1 record, which will be at least one game better than anyone else in the league. Each of the other four schools have one or more conference games remaining. In the process the Griffins did what no other MCC Baseball team has ever done in the history of the league, win four conference games in a six day span.
Ironically the Griffs also had four different pitchers get the victory in each of those games. On Monday Jack Eppy picked up the win against Chaminade with a complete game 8-1 victory. On Tuesday, Joe Manley turned in a solid 6 innings in the 3-2 triumph over DeSmet, in a battle of once beaten conference foes. Thursday, Jack Eisenbarger was the star in relief as he pitched 4 shutout innings of relief in the 11-2 victory over the SLUH Jr. Bills, and on Saturday the Griffins were led by Luke Mann who picked up the win against the Red Devils.
The 2015 MCC Title marks the ninth time the Griffins have won at least a share of first place in the league.
