Congratulations to the Vianney ultimate team, which finished fourth at the 2019 Missouri State High School Ultimate Championships on Sunday, May 5.
The Vianney ultimate squad was led by senior captains Matthew Schueler, Reilly Byrne, Steven Ladenberger and Jack Ojile.
Vianney entered the state tournament as the No. 6 seed after finishing the season 4-3. Pool play took place on Saturday where Vianney went 2-1 with wins against Marquette and DeSmet JV and a loss to Ladue. They finished 2nd in their pool to qualify for tournament play, which took place Sunday.
In tournament play, Vianney defeated Lindbergh handedly, 13-3, in a pre-quarterfinal match-up and then advanced to the semifinals with a 13-8 defeat of Chaminade in the quarterfinals. The victory over Chaminade was the first time Vianney has defeated their Marianist rivals.
Vianney finally fell to eventual champion Priory, 13-9, in the semifinals.
Vianney is coached by Jim Meyer and Jeremy Remiger '98.
The fourth-place finish is Vianney's best finish in program history.
