Gabbert records 700th win

St. John Vianney High School volleyball coach Jeff Gabbert ’84 added another milestone to his remarkable coaching career on Monday when he recorded his 700th win.

“When you do something long enough, you’re bound to pile up some wins,” Gabbert told STLhighschoolsports.com. “Along with having some amazing players and coaches, it adds up.”

Earlier this year, Gabbert was inducted into the Missouri High School Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Before Tuesday’s match against visiting St. Louis University High, Gabbert was honored for both achievements and received a standing ovation from a large home crowd that included dozens of his former players.

Gabbert’s 700 wins are the most in Missouri volleyball history and his 17 state championships — 16 at Vianney and one at Rosary — are believed to be the most in state history as well.
