Last night was a big night for the Griffin Swimmers and Divers as they took third place in the Rockwood Summit Invitational--the team's best finish ever in that event. Top performances were turned in by Freshman Nick Alexander who took 1st place in both the 200 IM and 100 Back--breaking his own school record in the 200 IM, Sam Reynolds who took second in the 50 Free and Alex Feicht as he took 2nd in Diving. As well, the 200 Medley Relay team of Alexander, Reynolds, Kevin Ogle and Austin Hanse broke their own school record in that event. For the second time this season, the team brought home the hardware as their 3rd place plaque is proudly displayed in the front office window. Next up for the Griffins--conference rival SLUH on Monday at 4pm at Forest Park CC pool.

In varsity soccer news, the Griffins defeated Eureka last night by a score of 2-0. A first half goal by Mike Albes and a second half goal by Eric Biras was all the Griffs needed in front of Michael Allen, who recorded the shutout in goal.

In B-soccer action, the Jr. Griffins took it on the chin losing to the Mustangs from Marquette in penalty kicks. Fighting back from a two goal deficit, Joey Delbert scored off an assist from Matt Schneider and Ryan Nelson buried a loose ball into the side netting un-assisted to tie the match. Our boys controlled the pace of play with there usual possession and numerous opportunities but the ball just didn't bounce our way. The Jr. Griffins are now 10-1-1 up next at SLUH on Tuesday.

If you are like most Vianney students, you want to join the Bocce team, but you are worried that it will conflict with Ping Pong. Not to worry, they are on different days to facilitate our two-sport athletes. The first Bocce meeting is in room 209 next Friday at Encore. All are welcome. See Mr. Kheriaty with questions.

The conference cross country championships will take place tomorrow at Forest Park Central Fields beginning with the varsity at 9:00. Come out and cheer on Eddie, Drake, Joey and the Griffin Harriers.

Freshman Football: After a rough and win-less five weeks to start the season, the freshman football team won their first game yesterday afternoon against Chaminade by a score of 21-20 in overtime. Congratulations on a tough, hard-fought, well-deserved win. The next game for the frosh team is their last home game of the season against Farmington on Monday, October 15th at 4:30 at the Heeb. Come out and support them as they try for win #2.
