The students who signed were Brenden Dolan (soccer, Rockhurst), Ryan Insco (baseball, Tennessee-Martin), Nico Hagen (baseball, Central Missouri State) and Will Pyatt (baseball, Illinois College).
Dolan, a defender, was one of four team captains for the Griffins soccer team, which went 19-5-2 this fall after last season’s runner-up finish in Class 4. Dolan recorded two goals and two assists while helping anchor a defense that allowed just 0.58 goals per contest.
“Brenden was a 2018 captain and a two-year starter in our backfield,” Vianney soccer coach Brian Haddock said. “He is a guy who leads by example and has the ability to help your team out in many different positions on the field.”
Hagan and Insco were key contributors to the state championship baseball team last spring.
Hagan, the starting shortstop, batted .370 and led the team with 44 runs scored.
“Nico was a big part of our state championship run last season, both offensively and defensively,” Vianney baseball coach Scott Brown said. “Nico was a spark at the top of our order last year and made things easier for our offense with his knack for getting on base. Nico will be asked to fill those same roles this year along with being one of our three team captains.”
Insco emerged as the Griffins’ closer and went 4-0 with five saves and a 1.72 earned-run average in 20 1/3 innings pitched.
“Ryan was the glue that held the bullpen together for us last year,” Brown said. “Ryan thrived in pressure situations and it seemed like the more tight the situation the bigger he came through.”
Pyatt, a catcher, missed the 2018 season with an injury.
“Will has had a tough go for his high school career with spending all or most of his three seasons injured and limited in playing time,” Brown said. “Will was finally healthy last summer and had a breakout summer for the Gamers. A healthy Will Pyatt in our lineup will help us be more productive and will be a boost to our already potent lineup.”
