WELCOME TO THE ART 2 CLASS WITH MS. JUDGE! YOU HAVE ALREADY SHOWN TALENTS AND ABILITIES IN THE VISUAL ARTS.WE HOPE THAT YOU WILL ENJOY THE OPPORTUNITY TO GAIN MORE INSIGHTS INTO THE ARTS AND REFINE YOUR SKILLS AND ABILITIES.
Please note that the supplemental reading book, ELEMENTARY ALPHABETS, by Ross F. George, is required for this course. Use of the book will be provided by Vianney High School.

There will be a writing assignment daily in each class. These writings will be combined regularly as one grade and included in each portfolio review.

Weekly portfolio reviews take place each Monday, unless otherwise noted.

Final project during last day of class to replace exam on scheduled exam day. To avoid a 0% for the final project, if a student is absent on the last day of class, he should see Ms. Judge on one of the exam days to complete the final project.

Day 1:

Learning objective: to combine pictures, memory, and imagination in to a drawing

In-class activity: to create a rough draft for a Depiction of Summer and to begin final product on 12x18" paper

Homework: to work on visual ideas for Depiction of Summer

Day 2:

Learning objective: to apply shading techniques to drawings for contrast of tones

In-class activity: to finish Depiction of Summer and to begin scratchboard of you choice.

Homework: to continue all assigned work

Day 3:

Learning objective: to plan scratchboard with 50/50 ratio of black/color, plus texture marks

In-class activities: to carve scratchboard and mount and to begin megaportrait of an animal 

Homework: to continue all assigned work and to find/print out a photo for a drawing of an animal

Day 4:

Learning objective: to consider techniques for shading animal portraits and drawing of man-made object bigger than life

In-class activities: to enlarge a picture of an animal and of a large man-made object onto 18x24" paper, adding background, texture, and shading

Homework: to continue all assigned work

Day 5:

Learning objective: to plan and execute aluminum tooling as bas-relief sculpture

In-class activities: to transfer design to 9x12" aluminum and tool with craft sticks

Homework: to finish depiction of winter, scratchboard, and animal portrait for Monday's deadline

Day 6:

Learning objective: to consider techniques of applying India Ink to aluminum tooling; to consider possible designs for Vianney T-shirt design contest 

In-class activities: to apply India Ink to aluminum tooling and burnish and frame

Homework: to continue all assigned work

Day 7:

Learning objective: to consider proportioning and gridding for picture enlargement

In-class activities: to enlarge a picture from a photo of a man-made object bigger than life

Homework: to continue all assigned work

Day 8:

Learning objective: to examine ways of framing and signing aluminum tooling

In-class activities: to work on aluminum tooling and to begin 4 paper expansions

Homework: to continue assignments

Day 9:

Learning objective: to examine ways of designing paper expansions

In-class activities: to work on all assigned work

Homework: to continue assigned work

Day 10: 

Learning objective: to examine differences among the 3 types of paper expansion

In-class activities: to work on 2 photo enlargements, Vianney T-shirt design, aluminum, paper expansions

Homework: to finish 2 photo enlargements for Tuesday's deadline and to continue all other assigned work 

Day 11:

Learning objective: to examine ways of creating still life paper expansions

In-class activities: to work on 4 paper expansions--1 plain, 1 flip-flop, 1 still life, + 1 style repeated in a new way ; to finish aluminum tooling and Vianney T-shirt design

Homework: to continue all assigned work

Day 12: 

Learning objective: to consider possibilities for drip painting

In-class activities: to continue 4 paper expansions and to begin drip painting

Homework: to continue all classwork

Day 13:

Learning objective: to consider options for mediums to be added to latex drip painting

Day 14:

Learning objective: to consider possibilities for illustration for a title, illustration for a song

Learning objective: to consider requirements for 2 acrylic paintings

In-class activities: to continue drip painting and 2 illustrations; to begin sketches for acrylic paintings--one from color photo on canvas panel and one free painting on matboard (approx. 11x14")

Learning objective: to review requirements for next Monday's portfolio 

In-class activities: to continue last two paper expansions, drip painting, 2 illustrations
