WELCOME TO THE VISUAL ARTS SECTION OF iNTRODUCTION TO THE ARTS. 

Please note that the book, ELEMENTARY ALPHABETS, by Ross F. George, is required for this course. Use of the book will be provided by Vianney High School.

There will be a comprehensive exam at the end of the semester covering all 3 sections of Intro to the Arts for 10% of the entire grade for the course.

Daily writing assignments will be combined as one grade and entered regularly as part of the portfolio reviews.

Weekly portfolio reviews take place each Monday, unless otherwise indicated.

Day 1:

Learning objective: to practice layout and design

In-class activity: to produce a prayer poster, a positive thought for the day on poster board.

Homework: to find or print out a photo with object(s), background, and 3-dimensional effects.

Day 2:

Learning objective: to practice densities of shading in enlarging of a picture

In-class activities: to finish prayer poster and to begin  photo interpretation on 18x24" paper

Homework: to continue all assigned work

Day 3:

Learning objective: to consider possible backgrounds for photo interpretations

In-class activities: to finish previous work and to find and grid a single cartoon frame for cartoon enlargement

Homework: to continue assigned work

Day 4:

Learning objective: to consider ways of capturing film animation on paper

In-class activities: to finish previous work and to begin cartoon enlargement and film animation picture

Homework: to continue cartoon enlargement and film animation

Day 5:

Learning objective: to consider coloring techniques for cartoon grids and film animation picture

In-class activities; to continue all assigned work and to find a photo of a famous human being for portraiture

Homework: to finish prayer poster, photo interpretation, and film animation picture

Day 6: 

Learning objective: to consider facial proportions for portraiture

In-class activities: to finish all previous work and to begin human portrait on 12x18" paper---face, neck, shoulders, and background

Homework: to continue all assigned work

Day 7:

Learning objective: to investigate ways of showing volume in drawing

In-class activities: to draw a picture of 5 shaded objects on 1 sheet of 12x18" paper---cone, sphere, plain cylinder, metal can, glass container

Homework: to continue all assigned work

DAy 8:

Learning objective: to consider use of cast shadows in object drawing

In-class activities: to add table surfaces, cast shadows, and wall tones to each of the five shaded objects drawn yesterday

Homework: to continue all assigned work

DAY 9:

Learning objective: to consider requirements for color wheel

In-class activities: to finish previous work and to begin a diagram for the color wheel on posterboard

Homework: to continue all assigned work

DAY 10:

Learning objective: to consider information provided on color wheel

Homework: to finish cartoon grid, human portrait, and drawing of 5 shaded objects

DAY 11:

Learning objective: to consider requirements for 3 watercolor  paintings

Learning objective: to consider fundamentals of color theory

Learning objective: to examine the use of horizon line and vanishing points in perspective drawing

In-class activities: to work from books and laptop in order to write a paragraph and draw a picture of the visual artist assigned

Homework: to finish the last 2 watercolors and 2 perspectives of the 5 assigned for Monday's deadline

DAY 20:

Learning objective: to consider possible backgrounds for perspective drawings

In-class activities: to continue perspective drawings; to continue Media Center project
