Named Scholarships

Our named scholarships provide financial assistance to those in need. Many of these scholarships were funded by families and organizations with a close connection to Vianney, and we are very grateful for their ongoing support and commitment to our mission.

TO APPLY

In order to be considered for any named scholarships, families must complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the Smart Aid Application by January 15, 2021.  
  2. Complete the Named Scholarship Application by January 15, 2021. Read descriptions below to determine which scholarships for which you qualify.

CRITERIA AND DESCRIPTIONS

Nick and John Allen Family Eagle Scout Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Vianney student who has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout
  • $1,000, non-renewable
  • Established in 2018 by the Allen family
  • A separate application and essay is required. The question to answer in a 500-word essay for the 2021-22 school year is as follows: 

    "In what ways has this pandemic changed the scouting experience and society? Using the scout oath and law, how can these be implemented to combat such unprecedented times? What can you, with the possible help from Vianney, do to adjust and improve both the scouting experience and society moving forward?"

Alumni Association Scholarship

  • Awarded to an incoming Freshman who is the son, step-son or grandson of a Vianney alumnus
  • 15% of Vianney’s tuition, renewable
  • Must maintain a 2.5 GPA
  • Established by Alumni, supplemented annually through the Alumni Association Golf Tournament and Trivia Night

Marty Anastasi Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Vianney student
  • $1,000, renewable
  • Established by the Anastasi family in 2021 to honor Marty Anastasi

Robert Wm. Bosslet Jr. Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Vianney student
  • $1,000, renewable
  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA
  • Established by the Bosslet family in 2011 to honor Robert William Bosslet Jr ‘67

Christopher H. Buehrle Memorial Fund

  • Awarded to a Vianney student who has lost a parent/legal guardian in the current school year
  • 10% of Vianney’s tuition, non-renewable
  • Granted in school year which the parent/legal guardian died or next school year if death occurs after March 1
  • Established in 2018 by the Buehrle family in honor of  Christopher H. Buehrle ‘86

Tom Cella Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to a rising Sophomore
  • $2,500, renewable
  • Must maintain a 2.5 GPA and be involved in at least one school activity
  • Established in 2005 by the Cella family and Dan McLaughlin '92 in honor of Tom Cella '92

Dennis J. and Patricia A. Fesler Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Vianney student
  • $5,000, renewable
  • Must maintain a 2.5 GPA and be involved in at least one school activity (incoming freshmen must commit to one school activity their freshman year if awarded this scholarship).
  • Established in 2018 by Dennis ‘64 and Patricia Fesler

Rev. August Frische Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to relatives of professed Marianists who attend Vianney
  • Percentage based on need, renewable
  • Established by the Society of Mary. Father Frische was the first president of Chaminade College Preparatory in St. Louis.

Kathleen A. Gau Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to an incoming Freshman
  • $2,650, renewable
  • Must maintain a 2.5 GPA
  • Established in 2011 by Kathleen’s husband, Robert A. Gau.

Jack Glaser Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Vianney student
  • Percentage based on need, renewable 
  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA, good conduct and good reputation among faculty and community
  • Established by family and friends of Jack Glaser ’74, a long-time Vianney teacher and administrator who died in 2004.  

Brett Grant Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to a rising Sophomore
  • $2,000, renewable 
  • Must maintain a 2.5 GPA and make an impact through service to his community
  • Established in 2017 by the Grant family in honor of their son and brother, Brett Grant ’85. Brett was a man of faith who believed in giving back to his community.

Brian Gruender Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Vianney student
  • $2,000, non-renewable 
  • Must have a 2.0 GPA, good conduct, and be involved in at least one school activity
  • Established by the Gruender family in 2007 in honor of Brian Gruender '08

Michael Loyet '77 Scholarship

  • Awarded to an incoming Freshman
  • $2,500, renewable
  • Must have a 2.5 GPA and be involved in at least one school activity
  • Established in 2020 in honor of Michael Loyet '77

McBride Alumni Scholarship

  • Awarded to a relative of a McBride High School alumnus
  • $1,500, non-renewable

Edward J. Naeger, Sr. and Karen (Jones) Naeger Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Vianney student
  • $1,000, non-renewable
  • The scholarship is named in honor of Karen (Jones) Naeger and the late Edward J. Naeger, Sr. who deeply believed in and supported private education in St. Louis and have been very dedicated to serving their community in so many ways.
  • A separate application and essay is required. Visit the Naeger Family Insurance website for scholarship information. 

Clayton Pfeiffer Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to a rising Senior
  • $1,000, non-renewable
  • Must have a 2.5 GPA and be involved in at least one school activity
  • Established in 2012 by his family in honor of Clayton Pfeiffer, ‘11
  • Applicants must submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher, staff member or coach at St. John Vianney High School.  

Daniel L. Ringwald Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Vianney student
  • $1,500, renewable
  • Must demonstrate academic progress
  • Established by the Ringwald family in 2005 to honor Daniel Ringwald '87

Lt. Daniel P. Riordan Scholarship

  • Awarded to an incoming Freshman
  • $5,000, renewable
  • Recognizes students who exhibit faith, honor and service
  • Established in 2007 by the Riordan family in honor of 1st Lt. Daniel P. Riordan '01
  • A separate application and an interview are required (a separate application will be mailed to students who qualify for this scholarship).

Patrick & Peggy Sly Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Vianney student
  • $2,000, renewable
  • Must maintain a 2.5 GPA
  • Established through the generosity of Pat ‘68 and Peggy Sly

Nikita Thompson Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to an incoming Freshman
  • $2,500, renewable
  • Must maintain a 2.5 GPA
  • Established in 2020 by the Thompson family in honor of Nikita Thompson '14

Tom Valenti Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to a rising Sophomore, Junior, or Senior. 
  • $1000, renewable
  • Must maintain a 2.5 GPA and is involved in at least one school activity
  • Established in 2009 by his family and friends in honor of Tom Valenti ‘79
  • Applicants must submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher, staff member, or coach at St. John Vianney High School.
