Need-Based Scholarships

The purpose of the following scholarships is to provide financial assistance to those in need. Many of these scholarships are provided by families and organizations with a close connection to Vianney, and we are very grateful for their ongoing support and commitment to our mission.

To Apply

In order to be considered for any need-based scholarships, families must complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the Smart Aid Application by March 1, 2019.  
  2. Complete the Need-Based Scholarship Application by March 1, 2019.  Read descriptions below to determine which scholarships for which you qualify.
  3. Student to submit a typed essay, minimum 500 words on the topic listed on above application.

Criteria and Descriptions:

Nick and John Allen Family Eagle Scout Scholarship

Alumni Association Scholarship

  • Awarded to the son, step-son or grandson of a Vianney alumnus
  • 15% of Vianney’s tuition, renewable
  • Must maintain a of 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • Established by Alumni, supplemented annually through the Alumni Association Golf Tournament and Trivia Night

Robert Wm. Bosslet Jr. Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Vianney student
  • $1,000, renewable
  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA
  • Established by Bosslet family in 2011 to honor Robert William Bosslet Jr ‘67

Christopher H. Buehrle Memorial Fund

  • Awarded to a Vianney student who has lost a parent/legal guardian in the current school year.
  • 10% of Vianney’s tuition, non-renewable.
  • Granted in school year which the parent/legal guardian died or next school year if death occurs after March 1
  • Established in 2018 by the Buehrle family in honor of  Christopher H. Buehrle ‘86

Tom Cella Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to an incoming freshman
  • $2,500 scholarship, renewable
  • Must maintain a 2.5 GPA and be involved in at least one school activity
  • Established in 2005 by the Cella family and Dan McLaughlin '92 in honor of Tom Cella '92

Dennis and Patricia Fesler Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Vianney student
  • $5,000 scholarship, renewable
  • Must maintain a 2.5 GPA and be involved in at least one extracurricular activity at St. John Vianney High School (incoming freshman must commit to one extracurricular activity their freshman year if awarded this scholarship).
  • Established in 2018 by Dennis ‘64 and Patricia Fesler

Rev. August Frische Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to relatives of professed Marianists who attend Vianney
  • Percentage based on need, renewable
  • Established by the Society of Mary. Father Frische was the first president of Chaminade College Preparatory in St. Louis.

Kathleen A. Gau Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to an incoming freshman
  • $2,650, renewable
  • Must maintain a 2.5 GPA
  • Established in 2011 by Kathleen’s husband, Robert A. Gau.

Jack Glaser Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Sophomore, Junior or incoming Freshman
  • Percentage based on need, renewable scholarship
  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA, good conduct and good reputation among faculty and community
  • Established by family and friends of Jack Glaser ’74, a long-time Vianney teacher and administrator who died in 2004.  Supported through annual donations.

Brett Grant Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to an incoming freshman
  • $1,000 renewable scholarship
  • Must have a 2.5 minimum cumulative GPA and make an impact through service to his community
  • Established in 2017 by the Grant family in honor of their son and brother, Brett Grant ’85. Brett was a man of faith who believed in giving back to his community.

Brian Gruender Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Vianney student
  • $1,000 non-renewable scholarship
  • Must maintain a 2.0 GPA, good conduct and be involved in at least one school activity
  • Established by the Gruender family in 2007 in honor of Brian Gruender '08

McBride Alumni Scholarship

  • Awarded to a relative of a McBride High School alumnus
  • $1,500, non-renewable

Edward J. Naeger, Sr. and Karen (Jones) Naeger Scholarship

  • Awarded to an incoming Freshman or rising Sophomore, Junior or Senior
  • $1,000, non-renewable
  • The scholarship is named in honor of Karen (Jones) Naeger and the late Edward J. Naeger, Sr. who deeply believed in and supported private education in St. Louis and have been very dedicated to serving their community in so many ways.

Clayton Pfeiffer Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to a junior for his senior year at Vianney
  • $1,000 non-renewable scholarship
  • Must maintain a 2.5 GPA and is involved in at least one school activity
  • Established in 2012 by his family in honor of Clayton Pfeiffer, ‘11
  • Applicants must submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher, staff member or coach at St. John Vianney High School.  

Daniel L. Ringwald Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Vianney student
  • $1,500, renewable
  • Must demonstrate academic progress
  • Established by the Ringwald family in 2005 to honor Daniel Ringwald '87

Lt. Daniel P. Riordan Scholarship

  • Awarded to an incoming freshman,
  • $4,000 renewable
  • Recognizes students who exhibit faith, honor and service
  • Established in 2007 by the Riordan family in honor of 1st Lt. Daniel P. Riordan '01
  • A separate application and an interview are required (a separate application will be mailed to students who qualify for this scholarship).

Patrick & Peggy Sly Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Vianney student
  • $2,000, renewable
  • Established through the generosity of Pat ‘68 and Peggy Sly
  • Must maintain a 2.5 GPA

Tom Valenti Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to a Sophomore, Junior or incoming Freshman.  Must maintain a 2.5 GPA and is involved in at least one school activity
  • $1000, renewable
  • Established in 2009 by his family and friends in honor of Tom Valenti ‘79
  • Applicants must submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher, staff member or coach at St. John Vianney High School.  Incoming Freshman please submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher or staff member at your current school.
